“There's a guy playing the final 6 holes of a Major Championship not knowing what his score is. Is this real life?” That’s from Roberto Castro commenting on the farcical situation of Dustin Johnson’s alleged rules infraction on the putting green which if proved could have cost him his U.S. Open championship.
A load of crap
In wrapping up her thoughts on the final round of the U.S. Open Stephanie Wei writes, “Apologies if this doesn’t read smoothly. Just so annoyed at this crap and haven’t slept. I’ll edit later. Peace.”
Of all the reports I’ve read about the Oakmont U.S. Open and the farcical rules drama and delayed decision which required a level of spin doctoring far exceeding anything that the USGA could come up with, Steph’s post is by far the best. Including recording the many tweets by upset professional golfers.
Given that the PGA is very upset when those in their ranks voice their unacceptable opinions and expletives not deleted it is remarkable how many professionals have been so outspoken about the USGA.
Pray please win by 2
Luke Donald tweets, “The @ usga praying now that DJ wins by 2,” and Luke’s is one of many including this from Gmac who wrote, “They need to stop play here and make a call on this DJ situation. Players need to know what they have to do.” But they didn’t and instead got themselves deeper into the mire through muddling.
Then there was the man who’s unashamedly an Australian with true blue Aussie attitude. Steve Elkington tweets, “This is setting up to be greatest fu&kup in all of golf
Growing the game.
One of the duties of the USGA is to help grow the game of golf and hopefully reduce the general public’s perception that the game is played and run by old guys but alas this latest incident has only confirmed the fact. They need to get a new life or retire.
To repeat Roberto’s remark, “There's a guy playing the final 6 holes of a Major Championship not knowing what his score is. Is this real life?” and for the life of me I can’t see them help grow the game.
Steph writes, “To be fair, it’s not just the USGA that is guilty of such absurdity. Golf can’t get out of its own freaking way most of the time because it’s run by a bunch of stiff suits that basically think we’re living in 1952. Yet, they also want to appeal to younger and wider audiences, but refuse to modernize and realize we’re well into the 21st century.”

Quote of the Day
“USGA they roll the greens 3 times. Double cut them. What else could cause it to move. How bout gravity!! So bad it's sickening.” – Mark Calcavecchia
