Fun Golf in Pacific Grove
John’s mention of a nearby muni got my memory working and I remembered in my early days of looking for photographic impressions for my artistic impressions I saw an inspiring image of a golfer walking to towards a seascape similar to its famous neighbour.
Searching around for the name of the muni I eventually found Michelelabelle over at Trip Advisor who writes, “Pacific Grove Municipal a Golf course is a fun, very tight little course. The front nine are fairly ordinary with a few ocean views along the way, but the back nine offer true links play, plenty of sand dune hazards and a terrific Oceanside setting. Staff are friendly and helpful. At $68 for green fees and cart, it's a fun outing for golfers looking for something more affordable than the stratospheric fees at fancier courses.”
“C'mon, it's $30 golf with amazing views”
Lisa R, another reviewer at Trip Advisor writes, “I'm not sure about some of the reviews we read but let's be clear - this is not Pebble Beach. If you want a well maintained course with views along the ocean, this course is a steal! Yes, the pace may be a little slower - there are a lot of locals that walk the course but who cares with these views? The deer are everywhere along the course, but never in your way. Plenty of time in the front 9 to get your game going, because the distractions from the views on the back 9 may cost you a shot or two.”
Golf Club Atlas has it covered
Golf Club Atlas is the premier web site covering golf courses and golf course architecture and I was thrilled so see that Adam Clayman had presented a review with plenty photographs with the first image exactly as I recalled seeing it several years ago.
Underneath the image Adam writes, “The expression 'the finest meeting of land and sea' is echoed in this view from the 12th tee at Pacific Grove.”
The referred to ‘finest meeting’ comes from fellow but much more famous Scot Robert Louis Stevenson who upon viewing Pebble Beach wrote, "The most felicitous meeting of land and sea in creation."

Quote of the Day
“The poor man's Pebble Beach they say with good reason. I've played the Pebble Beach course and sure it is thrilling but over managed and hugely expensive. The back nine at Pacific Grove rivals Pebble Beach.” – Lou at Golf Advisor
