Ewan Murray records Rickie Fowler’s historic scoring to set the target for the eventual playoff.
It’s not over until it’s over
Alex Myers writes, “Yes it was. Fowler made a back-nine comeback in the final round that will go down in PGA Tour lore. Scratch that, it was a back-six rally. Even his mom and sister had given up on him, going to the airport and checking their bags before realizing what was unfolding and hurrying back in time for the playoff.”
Given the excitement of the final day after what was up until then a rather boring event it comes as no surprise to read that noises are being made to make the event an official major championship event.
Sad about Sergio
Alex Myers writes, “A 10-year-old kid summed up what most of the fans at TPC Sawgrass were thinking on Sunday evening, "Now, instead of watching Martin Kaymer or Matt Kuchar, we'll see Rickie win." An understandable remark given how the kids have taken to Richie as a role model.
However some of the adults among the spectators should think again about their behaviour.
Ewan writes, “Five groups behind, García responded in emphatic fashion. He was subjected to shoddy treatment on the 17th tee where moronic heckles from the crowd preceded his tee shot. García’s response? An iffy tee shot to 44 feet followed by a converted putt – his longest of the season – and cold stare towards his detractors. García has his faults but deserved better in such an important scenario as this.”
The ugly Americans
Not for the first time; think Colin Montgomery, Ian Woosnam and Jose Maria Olazabal has an overseas player been heckled by American spectators when in with a chance to win a major event.
May the golf gods forbid, and have done so far in Scotland that Rickie Fowler is not subjected to the same treatment should he be in with a chance to win the forthcoming Open Championship.
And for those ill-mannered and “ugly Americans” please note it is the Open Championship and not the British Open and you'd learn a lot should you go to St Andrews and experience how to behave.

Quote of the Day
“Overrated, eh? Perhaps Rickie Fowler needed only an anonymous player poll for inspiration all along.” – Ewan Murray
