The above is from a 14 November 2016 press release on the Clearwater Golf Club website and has caused me to reflect on something that was written by Ken (No surname given in case he wishes to play there at some time in the future).
Ken writes, ‘Hey, what the heck is going on??...Imagine my surprise when I read on the internet a press release on 8th November, 2015 with the headline WORLD GOLF AWARDS NAME CLEARWATER GOLF COURSE AS THE BEST IN NEW ZEALAND AND OCEANIA’
Clearly they got it wrong yet again.
Ken writes in his November 16, 2016 newsletter, ‘The listing a few months later, as alluded to in paragraph one listed Tara Iti as No.1, followed by Jack’s Point, Cape Kidnappers & Kinloch making the top 5. Where was Clearwater rated? Yes, it came in at No. 17 – yes I will spell it out – Seventeen. How can there be such a variance?’
Ken concludes, ‘The fact that our local people voted it No. 17 in the country, yet the overseas experts put it at No. 1 in Australasia and this include Fiji, makes it very hard to comprehend…’
Perhaps not too difficult to comprehend given that even their experts most likely couldn’t manage to get a game on Tara Iti.
Unlike Ken I have had the good fortune of playing Clearwater but I’m reluctant to advise it as No. 1 in New Zealand or for that matter Oceania.
